Parables About the Kingdom (Sea of Galilee)
| MAT 13:1 On that day Jesus went out of the house,
and was sitting by the sea. MAT 13:2 And great multitudes gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat down, and the whole multitude was standing on the beach. MAT 13:3a And He spoke many things to them in parables, |
MAR 4:1 And He began to teach again by the sea.
And such a very great multitude gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat
down; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. MAR 4:2 And He was teaching them many things in parables, and was saying to them in His teaching, |
LUK 8:4 ¶ And when a great multitude were coming
together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a
parable: |
The soils
| MAT 13:3b saying, "Behold, the sower went
out to sow; MAT 13:4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up. MAT 13:5 "And others fell upon the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil. MAT 13:6 "But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. MAT 13:7 "And others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out. MAT 13:8 "And others fell on the good soil, and yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. MAT 13:9 "He who has ears, let him hear." MAT 13:10 ¶ And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in
parables?" MAT 13:23 "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit, and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty." |
MAR 4:3 "Listen to this! Behold, the sower
went out to sow; MAR 4:4 and it came about that as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up. MAR 4:5 "And other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil. MAR 4:6 "And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. MAR 4:7 "And other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked
it, and it yielded no crop.
MAR 4:14 "The sower sows the word. MAR 4:16 "And in a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the
rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; |
LUK 8:5 "The sower went out to sow his seed;
and as he sowed, some fell beside the road; and it was trampled under foot, and the birds
of the air ate it up. LUK 8:6 "And other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.
LUK 8:7 "And other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it, and
choked it out. LUK 8:9 ¶ And His disciples began questioning Him as to what this parable might be.
LUK 8:11 "Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. LUK 8:13 "And those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the
word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of
temptation fall away.
LUK 8:14 "And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have
heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures
of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity. LUK 8:15 "And the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the
word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance. |
Lamps/listening
| MAR 4:21 ¶ And He was saying to them, "A
lamp is not brought to be put under a peck-measure, is it, or under a bed? Is it not
brought to be put on the lampstand? MAR 4:22 "For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it should come to light. MAR 4:23 "If any man has ears to hear, let him hear." MAR 4:24 And He was saying to them, "Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it shall be measured to you; and more shall be given you besides. MAR 4:25 "For whoever has, to him shall more be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him." |
LUK 8:16 ¶ "Now no one after lighting a
lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a
lampstand, in order that those who come in may see the light. LUK 8:17 "For nothing is hidden that shall not become evident, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light. LUK 8:18 "Therefore take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him shall more
be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from
him." |

Mustard seed
| MAT 13:31 ¶ He presented another parable to
them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and
sowed in his field; MAT 13:32 and this is smaller than all other seeds; but when it is full grown, it is larger than the garden plants, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches. " |
MAR 4:30 ¶ And He said, "How shall we
picture the kingdom of God, or by what parable shall we present it? MAR 4:31 "It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the soil, though it is smaller than all the seeds that are upon the soil, MAR 4:32 yet when it is sown, grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and forms large branches; so that the birds of the air can nest under its shade. " |
Leavening - Matthew 13:33
Always speaking in parables
| MAT 13:34 ¶ All these things Jesus spoke to the
multitudes in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable, MAT 13:35 so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world." |
MAR 4:33 ¶ And with many such parables He was
speaking the word to them as they were able to hear it; MAR 4:34 and He did not speak to them without a parable; but He was explaining everything privately to His own disciples. |
